Sassounian: Genocide Denier Condoleezza Rice Unworthy to Teach at Stanford

In her newly published 750-page book, A Memoir of My Years in Washington: No Higher Honor, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice proudly describes her efforts to defeat Armenian Genocide resolutions on two separate occasions. With great relish, she brags about her success in undermining the acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide by Congress in 1991 and 2007.

A close scrutiny of Rice’s arguments exposes her flawed judgment and ethical lapses. In her memoir, she relates that her first experience “with this problem” was in 1991, when she worked in the White House as acting special assistant to then-President George H. W. Bush. Her task was “to mobilize an effort to defeat the resolution in the House of Representatives.” Gloating over her triumph, she depicts herself as battling “the powerful Armenian American lobby” that “has for years pressured Congress to pass a resolution branding the Ottoman Empire’s mass killings of Armenians starting in 1915 as genocide.” In reality, she had no need to counter what had already been acknowledged by the House of Representatives in 1975 and 1984, and by President Ronald Reagan in 1981.

Rice proceeds to maintain that “there are many historical interpretations of what happened,” which is untrue, of course, as there are no historical disputes on the Armenian Genocide—a universally acknowledged fact. Furthermore, Rice does not seem to realize that when she describes the Armenian “killings” as “clearly a brutal, ethnically motivated massacre,” she in fact is recognizing them as genocide, as defined under Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention.

In her memoir, Rice attempts to justify her obstructionist maneuvers by explaining that the Turks “were outraged at the prospect of being branded for an event that had taken place almost a century before—under the Ottomans!” Instead of behaving as the spineless official of a banana republic, Rice should have sternly admonished the Turks that the United States would not distort historical facts to appease the paranoid leaders of an autocratic state.

Boasting about how well she “had succeeded” in her “assigned task,” Rice callously describes her appalling efforts in “fighting off the dreaded Armenian genocide resolution.” She makes a half-hearted attempt to minimize her ethical transgression by stating that no one denies “the awful events or the tragic deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Armenians,” which even Turkish officials acknowledge.

If she was aware that no one was denying the mass murder of Armenians, why was Rice so fervently determined to kill the resolution? She then parrots the nonsensical Turkish propaganda that this issue should be left to “historians—not politicians—to decide how best to label what had occurred.” Rice should have known that reputable historians the world over have already declared that the Armenian killings constituted genocide.

As secretary of state in 2007, Rice once again battled against the adoption of an Armenian Genocide resolution. She reports that she “begged” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to prevent the House from voting on the resolution, but the Speaker rejected her request. Rice and Defense Secretary Bob Gates then delivered a press statement against the resolution, standing in front of the White House. She also got eight former secretaries of state to sign a joint letter opposing the resolution.

Rice proudly states in her memoir that she managed to block the vote on the resolution, in keeping with her promise to the Turks. Once again, instead of defending the noble values and high principles on which America was founded, the secretary of state of the most powerful nation on earth caved in to the diktats of a third world bully.

Concluding her narrative, Rice makes false accusation against Armenia’s leaders, claiming that “the democratically elected Armenian government had little interest in the resolution. In fact, it was engaged in an effort to improve relations with Turkey, and it didn’t need it either.” Rice is contradicting the U.S. government’s public announcement that the 2003 Armenian presidential elections did not meet international standards. Furthermore, then-President Robert Kocharian did not oppose the genocide resolution and was not seeking to improve Armenia’s relations with Turkey. In fact, a State Department official reported that during his meeting with Kocharian in Yerevan, the Armenian president was “in a foul mood” because the White House had just blocked the genocide resolution.

Rice is now a professor at Stanford University. Ironically, another Armenian Genocide denier, former Secretary of State George Shultz, is also at Stanford. Faculty members, students, alumni, and donors should advise Stanford University officials that genocide deniers are not welcome at one of America’s most distinguished institutions of higher learning.

Readers are urged to fax Rice at (650) 721-3390, expressing displeasure at her appalling efforts against U.S. acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide.

  1. Use your enemies perceived strength and appeal against them.  Things are going to change. No longer will the Masons and Illuminati control History.  History should have no bias and a sharp sword. Let history judge her.

  2. The reality is always different than the deniers.
The Armenian Genocide is a historical fact, it’s a reality.
We shouldn’t mix it with politics.

  3. One would expect that an intellecutal member of a racial minority would sympathize with the cause of an ethnic minority, which has in fact come into existence as a result of ethnic, racial and religous hate and discrimination. But alas, you cannot expect much from carrier politicians.

  4. and….this….may…be…why…America…has no credibility…in foreign policy…you cannot say I will acknowledge the genocide…get elected…and say…genocide…what genocide…? did I miss something…..?

  5. Slaves of Politics…
    Gondi Mondi and others…
    All are the same…

When the politicians arrive to power
    They become slaves of politics
    If they don’t obey
    They will be thrown out…
Thus…They continue to show their face
    And not their backs.

    Politics Play yet People Pay
    Politics silently plays
Guess and say, who will pay!
    The grievers from stars
Or the hazy moon in dusked sky?

    Politics have a designed show.
    Humans treated unevenly
In every place, row after row
Who belong to this politics dwell

    Treated differently, ignoring no.
    Called dedicators who heed.
Born of political royalty, new breeds
Are unsound crawlers, them, none can hear.

    Every democratic government says,
“All humans must be treated equally.”
Why shouldn’t we be treated unequally—
As earth may flatten in the same enormity.

    So populace—other than politicians royal—
    Stay unsound, stamped to die.
No one can save them, even saints
Thems are victims, how can they save their mates?

  6. Condoleeza Rice.    I don’t care how many degees you have,  you are the most lowest human being on this earth.  You have absolutely no understanding of human righrs, and the true meaning of the Genocide.   You claim yourself a scholar?    You do not qualify for any titles you held in the past, because first and foremost you do not care about the human rights.  You do not care about International crimes against humanity.   You are unworthy, because you have no compassion and dignity towards the people that were massacred.    You have the audacity to write in your book and gloat in undermining the acknowledgement of the Armenian Genoicide.

I would  like you to think about the Civil rights movement, for one second.   Where do you think you would have been, with your education,  if the civil rights movement were ignored?   I rest my case.

  7. How Can We Accept,
    Our genocided Bones
    To stay Uncanned

    If others can’t forget
    How can we forget
    1.5 million innocent lives
Not only soldiers…Soldiers are accepted to sigh…

    But unborn babies…?
    Pregnant brides…?
    Virgin girls…?
    Young boys less eight years…?
    All were genocided and why…?

    Condi and her gangs
Let she teach Us how to forget
And not to put on them roses red and white

If ‘Flanders Fields’* filled with flesh canned
But ours remain uncanned in Der-Zor Lands
Till this moment their bones are shinning
Under the hot-sun looking to the sky…

    We need Armenian Flanders Fields
    Near Condi’s ground
    Filled with their genocided bones
    Decorated with tulips…
    Her to believe and sight
    What means genocide…!!!

    *In Flanders Fields
     by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    We should unite and write

  9. I wonder why those demoralized and corrupted American politicians, become teachers and educators, and I wonder if this new modern “Monaleeza” ever heard of Dr. Luther King!!

  10. Guess what Condi Rice, there are a lot of different ways to interpret slavery too. How would she feel if the United States were denying that slavery happened?

  11. Ms. Condoleezza Rice:

Seeing how you are on the side of the deniers of the Armenian Genocide from 1915 thru 1923, I have one thing to say to you.

Martin Luther King would NOT have been proud of you!!!!!

  12. Dear Baron,  How right you are.  As the head of state and or a dignified member of that state, you certainly cannot play around with a historical fact as the Armenian Genocide by stating one time that it is indeed a Genocide, then after getting elected to stay silent, dodge the subject and then do everything in your power to defeat the Armenian Genocide Resolution in Congress.  You cannot play around that way with well known historical facts to appease the belligerent bullying Turkish government.  Any heads of state or a supposedly dignified member of that state will not be a dignified, just, ethical and a person with moral qualities.  By appeasing the belligerent bullying country, the high ranking official of a state with leadership abilities will promote bad and belligerent behaviour amongst nations of the world.

  13. SINCE CONDOLEEZZA RICE DOES NOT HAVE A US GOVERNMENT JOB NOW. THERE IS NO EXCUSE ON HER PART TO DECLARE THAT THE TURKS DID COMMIT A GENOCIDE  AGAINST THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE.SHE SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE , THIS WOULD MAKE HER A BETTER HUMAN BEING. BUT  I HAVE DOUBTS SINCE SHE MIGHT BE WORKING FOR THE TURKISH LOBBY SOON!!!! I WILL NOT BE SURPRISED.

  14. Our jutice system is going to judge her, if we have any. I don’t exclude in near future a class action against Rice and et al will be filed by Armenians, if we have any.
