Armenian Night at the Pops to Feature Saxophonist Hayrapet Arakelyan

BOSTON, Mass.—On Fri., June 13, the Friends of Armenian Culture Society will present the 63rd annual Armenian Night at the Pops at Boston’s Symphony Hall. The evening will feature the young saxophonist Hayrapet Arakelyan from Germany. He will join Maestro Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra in performing selections from the “Tango Suite” by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, along with other selections and Pops favorites.

Also featured on the program is Grammy- and Oscar-winning American rock singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge, who will join the Pops with her first-ever appearances with a symphony orchestra, showcasing “The Very Best of the Boston Pops.” The evening will present an amazing range of music and entertainment that audiences have come to expect from “America’s Orchestra.”

Arakelyan studied at the Alexander Spendarian Music School in Yerevan and at the Music University in Cologne, Germany. He was awarded first prize at the Saxophone International Competitions in Nantes and Carquefou, France, and “Grand Prix” at the Yamaha Competition in Yerevan. He represented Germany in the finals of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in 2010. Arakelyan has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras across Europe and has appeared at many music festivals in Europe and the United States. He is currently a D’Addario Performing Artist in Cologne.
