“For a mere moment, I glance at people,
To see mercy in their eyes…” (Armenian Weekly/file photo)

For a mere moment, I glance at people,

To see mercy in their eyes,

I want to see the light

Simply arise,

So that with no blood, no evil,

Darkness dissolves in peoples’ hearts.

Alas! I witness

The birth of darkness,

The alarmed retreat of light…

With soundless sadness

My gaze takes flight

Where wailing and clouds burden the night.

I witness how,

With inhuman rage,

The ramparts of hope are razed…

Somber wraths are born

So base, so low,

Crossing all bounds of things depraved.

For a mere moment, I wish

To see the world shaken,

The sea of conscience in a storm…

With the might and wisdom

Of the Almighty

I wish to see

Vile iniquity kneel

In front of soaring decency!
